LARNED — The Hoisington High School volleyball team remained undefeated in the Mid-Central Activities Association after sweeping the league quadrangular on Saturday.
The Lady Cardinals, who are ranked No. 1 in Class 3A in the latest Kansas Volleyball Association poll, beat Thomas More Prep-Marian, 25-3, 27-25.
“We came out in the first match against TMP and wow,” Hoisington head coach Tina Johnson said. “That was the best defense we’ve played all year in that first game. I think it was the most digs we’ve had, too. Then we just kind of let up in the second game.”
Mykela Riedl led the Lady Cardinals with 28 digs on Saturday. Mallory Flagor added 20 digs, as well as a team-leading 39 kills and 13 aces.
“Mallory is just a big help on the team,” Johnson said. “Her play as well as her leadership. I think the rest of the girls have raised their expectations this year because of her.”
Belle Brickley had 10 kills and 18 digs, and Savannah Rose contributed 16 kills.
Hoisington, which is 33-3 overall this season, beat Ellinwood, 25-11, 25-18, and Larned, 25-12, 25-18. It finished the year 10-0 against MCAA opponents.
Sophomore Abby Rziha led the Lady Cardinals with 65 assists.
Ellinwood beat Larned, 25-18, 25-20, but fell to TMP-Marian, 25-20, 25-19.
