SEDGWICK — The Hoisington High School softball team lost both ends of a doubleheader at Sedgwick on Friday, losing the first game 7-6 and the nightcap 5-3.
In the lidlifter, Hoisington held a one-run lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning, but a walk and a misplayed bunt posted runners on first and second.
Sedgwick’s next batter was expired, but the base runners were able to advance to second and third.
Sedgwick was able to get a one-out double to drive in the two and edge Hoisington, 7-6.
“Bailey Barnard pitched a good game, but an untimely walk in the seventh and not getting that out on the bunt put us in a terrible position,” Hoisington head coach Lee Van Scyoc said. “Sedgwick came up with a big hit to win the game.”
In the second game, it was the bottom of the sixth that Sedgwick began to come from behind.
Trailing 3-1, Sedgwick was able to load the bases on a hit, a walk and a hit by pitch. Sedgwick plated three runs to take a 5-3 lead that was held to close the game.
Hoisington hosts Larned and Ellinwood in a triangular on Tuesday to close the regular season.
