WICHITA — The Great Bend High School girls swim team took 15th out of 22 teams on Saturday at the Wichita Northwest invitational.
“Competing with a lot of those schools that are (Class) 6A, I think that it really helps the girls,” GBHS coach Stephanie Maier said. “They got to swim against some faster competition and a lot of the girls really improved their times.
“In a competition like that it is more about the individual times than the team’s overall standings.”
The Lady Panthers’ top finish belonged to freshman Hannah Hildebrand, who took seventh place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of one minute, 8.11 seconds. Hildebrand also was the top finisher for Great Bend in the 200 individual medley, touching in at 2:34.74.
Taycee Bunn took 12th place in the 100 freestyle, clocking in at 1:03.66. She also took 14th place in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:13.75.
Allison Damm turned in a time of 6:26.37 in the 500 freestyle to finish in 15th place.
Jessica Kuhlman took 20th place in the 200 freestyle, racing to a time of 2:25.13.
The top Great Bend relay was the 400 freestyle relay, where Katie Heeke, Brenna Haines, Kylee Spray and Damm combined for a time of 4:34.22, good enough for 11th place.
“Our relays did very well,” Maier said. “They turned in some very good times on Saturday. Hannah Hildebrand swam fast for us in the fly and I.M.. Taycee Bunn scored some individual points for the team, and Allison Damm did well in the 500 freestyle.”
