McPHERSON — Great Bend High School’s tennis team finished fifth out of six teams, and just one point behind Newton on Thursday at the McPherson tournament.
“Both singles players had tough first matches of the year, facing the 5A state doubles champions from last year who are playing singles this year,” Great Bend head coach Shannon Schartz said. “Both our singles players played very well.
“Our doubles teams played well in spurts today. We had a team goal of everyone winning a match today in a tough tournament. Most of our players were playing their first varsity matches of their careers, and had to face the state’s second-ranked team in McPherson.”
