ST. JOHN — The St. John High School girls’ basketball team graduated their leading scorer and rebounder from last year.
However, the Lady Tigers had a pair of girls in double figures to make up for the missing points on Friday night, winning 52-40 against Pratt-Skyline.
Teresa Christie, a post for player for the Lady Tigers, replacing the graduated Teresa Wade, finished with a team-leading 14 points.
Senior guard Morgan Osborne added 13 points for the Lady Tigers, who jumped out to a 15-10 lead after the first quarter.
St. John faces Ellinwood on Tuesday night at 6 in the first round of the Gene Keady Classic at Larned.

CLAFLIN — Senior post player Jennifer Hitschmann turned in a team-high 16 points as the Central Plains Lady Oilers toppled Hoisington.
Freshman Reagan Phelan, and senior point guard Janae Hekele added 12 for Central Plains.
The Lady Cardinals were led by Jordin Greer, who finished with 13 points.
Hoisington takes on Kinsley on Tuesday at 2 p.m. during a first-round game of the Gene Keady Classic in Larned.
The Lady Oilers play again on Tuesday at 5:45, challenging Ell-Saline in the Amos Morris/George Stephens Classic at Russell.

NESS CITY — Ness City was able to fend off a late-game surge from Macksville for a season-opening victory.
The Lady Mustangs outscored the Lady Eagles 21-14 in the final eight minutes, but came up shy.
Karissa Langlois finished with a team-high 12 points for Macksville, and teammate
Mindy Wood added 11 points.
The Lady Mustangs meet Spearville on Monday during the first round of the Gene Keady Classic in Larned. The game starts at 2 p.m.

CLAFLIN — During the preseason, Central Plains’ first-year head coach Brett Rolfs said his team would need to rely on Layne Bieberle.
The sophomore guard came through in a season-opening win that saw him score a team-leading 21 points, including three 3-pointers.
Konnor Hickel finished with 10 points for the Oilers.
Hoisington led 28-27 heading into halftime, but the Oilers pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Cardinals 19-7.
Cody Stetler, a 6-foot-8 senior center, who recently signed to play basketball for Houston Baptist University, finished with a game-high 27 points.
Hoisington faces Kinsley on Tuesday at 4 p.m. during a first-round game of the Gene Keady Classic.
