LARNED—A promising first half turned sour for the Larned Lady Indians as they fell to the Lakin Broncs here Tuesday evening, 41-29. Lakin turned the ball over 9 times in the first quarter but Larned could only forge a 7-7 tie. That trend continued in the second quarter as Larned could only build a 2-point margin, 17-15 at halftime.
Lakin used a 12-5 spurt in the third quarter to take control of the game, 27-22 and won going away in the fourth quarter. Lakin committed 29 turnovers in the game but Larned’s shooting woes simply prevented the Indians from taking advantage of the miscues. Larned could only make 5 field goals in the second half when the game was decided.
Larned coach Ashley Crosby said, “I sound like a broken record but, we’re just not making shots. Our defense is good but when you shoot a low percentage it makes it tough to compete.”
With the non-league win Lakin improves to 4-15 on the season. The Broncs converted 18 of 39 field goal attempts and were 0 of 2 from the charity stripe. They were led in scoring by 5’2” freshman, Jaya Esquibel with 17 points. Lizzy Webb added 10.
Larned made only 12 field goals out of 41 attempts as their record fell to 2-16 for the season. The Indians were led in scoring by Katie Fischer’s 13 points while Brook Butler added 9. Larned will travel to Lindsborg for a Central Kansas League game on Friday.
