LARNED — Larned pitcher Alex Barger keyed a second-game 7-4 victory over Kingman to earn a split of Tuesday’s Central Kansas League baseball doubleheader. Kingman routed the Indians 16-1 in the opener. The Indians travel to Hillsboro Tuesday.
KINGMAN 16, LARNED 1 (game 1) — Kingman took advantage of seven hit batters, three walks, three errors and four wild pitches to roll to an easy four-inning victory. Starter Austin Gladow hit three batters in the first inning.
The Eagles scored 10 baserunners who reached base without a hit. Garrett Waldschmidt and Brenden McBeth each drove in three runs.
Larned’s Mason Perez singled home Carson Smith in the third inning.
LARNED 7, KINGMAN 4 (game 2) — Barger overcame five errors and yielded two earned runs with three strikeouts in a solid 99-pitch performance.
The Indians scored three first-inning runs. Smith stole home on a double steal. Barger scored on Nick Orth’s bases-loadd walk. Mason Burris scored on a wild pitch.
Shevin Martin scored on a wild pitch and Smith scored on Burris’ sacrifice fly for a 5-0 lead after two innings. Martin’s RBI single drove home Orth in the third inning. Barger’s sacrifice fly scored Mason Perez in the sixth inning.
Kingman’s Garrett Waldschmidt singled home Gage Oller and scored on a groundout in the third inning. Chris Ontiveros scored on a fourth-inning error. Garrett Waldschmidt’s single scored Cameron Boydston in the sixth inning for another unearned run.
