Larned golf team wins two titles

The Larned High girls golf team is rolling. The Indians captured Saturday’s Lakin Invitational (359) and won the Central Kansas League portion of the Cheney Invitational (357) Monday at Cherry Oaks Golf Course.
At Lakin, Larned medalist Dorothy Keenan placed first (79) and teammate Haley Skelton (81) finished runner-up. Madison Gleason tied for ninth (95). Leanne Peterson (104) counted as the Indians’ fourth-best score.
“That was our best team score,” said Larned coach Toni Novotny.
At Cheney, with winds gusting past 30 mph Monday, Larned posted a season low 357 score. Keenan placed second (75) and Madison Gleason placed fourth (86) and Haley Skelton, tied for sixth (89). Sierra Smith (107) counted as Larned’s fourth-best score.
“It’s our first time to have three girls shoot 89 or lower, which is very exciting. I am very happy with the girls’ scoring these last three tournaments,” Novotny. “We are working for regionals Monday at Ulysses.”
JV RESULTS — Hoisington medalist Hadleigh Gardner (46) led the Cardinals to first place (205) in the junior varsity division.
Hoisington’s Kenzie Wolf (47) placed runner-up. Liza Ward (56) and Maleigha Schmidt (56) tied for ninth.
