HALSTEAD – Larned pitcher Mattie Glover shut down Halstead and the Indians scored 27 runs to overpower the Dragons 13-3 and 14-1 in Friday’s Central Kansas League doubleheader.
Larned (7-5) has won four in a row heading to a CKL showdown against Hoisington (7-3) Tuesday. Halstead drops to 0-10.
LARNED 13, HALSTEAD 3 (G1) – Larned’s Glover struck out six batters with no walks. Alea Making, Lynzi Myrick, Glover and Abby Towery each drove in two runs.
Bryant, Glover and Julie Tapia scored on first-inning wild pitches for a 3-0 lead. Dragons Brittley Day and Madyson Beckett delivered RBI hits for a 3-2 score.
Glover ripped a two-run triple and Myrick a two-run single to spark a seven-run fourth inning. Towery, Baylea Perez and Makings also delivered runs batted in for a 10-2 lead.
After Kayla Newman’s single scored Daphne Williams, Makings drove home Grandy for an 11-2 lead. Towery and Jordan Taylor drove home runs in a two-run sixth inning for a 13-3 lead.
LARNED 14, HALSTEAD 1 (G1) – Glover pitched three innings and Perez threw the final two frames. Taylor drove in three runs and Tapia had two RBIs.
Myrick, Tapia, Shaylee Martin and Taylor drove in first-inning runs for a 4-0 lead. Madyson Beckett’s sacrifice fly made it 4-1. Glover and Trista Flock scored third-inning runs for a 6-1 lead.
Five Larned runs scored on wild pitches or passed balls in a seven-run fourth inning keyed by RBI singles by Glover and Taylor for a 13-1 lead. Tapia’s single scored Myrick for Larned’s final run.
