Larned splits twinbill

ULYSSES — The Larned High School baseball team split a doubleheader at Ulysses on Friday, winning 8-7 in nine innings in the first game before falling 11-1 in the nightcap.
The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of Game 1, but the Indians were able to accumulate a 6-2 lead after the top of the fifth.
Ulysses narrowed the gap to 6-4 in the bottom of the fifth, and even though Larned scored another run in the top of the sixth, the Tigers tied the game with three runs in the bottom.
Easton Palmer went 1-4 with three RBIs to lead the Indians. He started on the mound, going five innings.
Palmer gave up 13 hits and six earned runs while striking out six.
Ulysses went ahead 7-1 after three innings in the first game and scored one run in the fourth and three in the fifth to run-rule the Indians.
Palmer went 2-for-2 with a run scored.
Tyler Stelter had the lone RBI for the Indians, who are 3-5 overall this season.
Larned hosts Hays on Tuesday. The doubleheader begins at 4 p.m.
