SCOTT CITY — Larned’s Hunter Fitzpatrick earned first place to lead the Indians to the team title in the Scott City Wrestling Classic. The Indians (134.5) needed every point to edge Scott City (132.5) by two points. Eight Larned wrestlers placed in the top four.
Fitzpatrick (18-4, 145) pinned two foes and edged Lakin’s John Perez 6-5 for first place.
Placing runner-up were Michael Saenz (16-6, 120), Kristopher Nolde (12-6, 138) and Caleb East (12-9, 182). Saenz won two of three matches, losing 4-3 to Thmoas More Prep’s Thomas Lovewell in the finals. Nolde pinned two foes and lost 8-5 to Ulysses’ Kuan Carlos Terrazas in the finals. East won two matches before losing in 4:50 against Hugoton’s Marcos Baeza in the finals.
Brayden Lemuz (15-8, 132), Josh Kramer (12-7, 220) and Jeremiah Slattery (13-4, 285) each finished third. Lemuz pinned Garden Plain’s Mercedes Gassman in 26 seconds for third place. Kramer pinned Garden Plain’s Ethan Swaffer in 40 seconds for third place. Slattery downed Scott City’s Gabe Bowers 5-1 for third place in a match that clinched the team title for the Indians.
Anthony Quintana (5-9, 106) placed fourth with a loss in 3:32 against Sam Pyle of Ellis.
