LARNED — The Macksville High School girls’ basketball team struggled in the first game of the consolation bracket of the Keady Basketball Classic on Thursday.
The Lady Mustangs fell behind 9-2 after the first quarter and lost to Sacred Heart 40-23.
“We just need to get some things under control,” Macksville head coach Nathaniel Norman said. “We’ve got a couple of kids who are starting to get back from injuries. Once we can get them back, I think we’ll start to settle in.”
One player who is working back into the lineup is 5-foot-6 junior Keira Parr. Parr was the lone returning starter from last year’s team.
Parr is returning after some soreness in her knee prevented her from starting in the season opener.
Norman, who is in his first season with Macksville, said that she was starting to get comfortable with the changes he has made.
Karissa Langlois led Macksville with seven points, including the team’s only 3-pointers.
“Karissa’s a solid player,” Norman said. “She is playing in a position that she isn’t normally used to playing. A lot of our kids are right now, but she is handling it very well.”
The Lady Mustangs face Kiowa County on Saturday at 2 p.m.
