LARNED – Down 13-5 against Hesston, the odds were stacked against Larned’s baseball team. A few minutes later, Larned celebrated the wildest comeback in coach Chad Erway’s coaching career with a nine-run rally.
Shevin Martin’s single scored Mason Perez and Mello Bryant with the tying and game-winning runs off reliever Camden McDonald to spark a wild celebration on a vintage 80-degree afternoon.
Larned (8-8) has won six consecutive games heading to a twin bill against Smoky Valley May 3.
LARNED 14, HESSTON 13 (G2) – After trailing 13-5, Barger and Martin walked and Ceniceros was hit by a pitch to start the seventh inning. Brayden Rupp’s three-run triple made it 13-8. Jordan Taylor’s RBI single scored Rupp. Perez’ RBI single scored Burris. Taylor scored on an error. Barger’s sacrifice fly scored Smith for a 13-12 score with one out left.
Ceniceros walked to load the bases to set up a force play at every base. Bu Martin spoiled the strategy with the game-winning single to left field.
