Cardinals look to continue improving against Hillsboro

Hoisington (2-1)
at Hillsboro (1-2)
The Hoisington High School football team had a small setback in Week 1, but have bounced back well.
The Cardinals fell in double overtime to Larned 21-20.
After that the Redbirds shut down Nickerson for a 7-0 nail-biting victory, and defeated new Central Kansas League opponent Pratt, 21-7.
Each game, the result has gotten better.
Hunter Hanzlick has been Hoisington’s bright spot on offense.
He has rushed for 359 yards and five touchdowns this season.
Hillsboro has scored more points than Hoisington, including a 54-20 victory over Sterling.
The Trojans average 31 points per game.
 
Nickerson (1-2)
at Larned (1-2)
Both teams will be looking for their second win of the season.
Nickerson is coming off its first win of the season.
The 28-3 victory over Lyons also marks the Panthers’ first time scoring points this season.
The other two teams on Nickerson’s early-season schedule are opponents Larned has come across.
Nickerson lost 7-0 against Hoisington. Larned’s one win came against Hoisington, though it took two overtimes for the 21-20 victory.
Against Kingman, the Panthers fell 20-0. The Indians managed to hold Kingman to three points, but fell 3-0.
Larned dropped another close game against La Crosse, a 14-7 setback.
 
Macksville (0-3)
at Ellinwood (1-2)
While Macksville is still looking for its first win of the season, Ellinwood is looking for its first multi-win season in years.
There isn’t a common opponent yet, but bother teams have been carving through Central Prairie League teams.
The Mustangs fell 56-6 against Otis-Bison, 62-0 against Ness City and 74-0 against Central Plains, three league teams with only one loss between the three of them so far this season.
Ellinwood has had an easier route thus far, with only one opponent with a winning record this season.
The Eagles defeated St. John-Hudson, 40-20, before hitting a slide with a 62-8 loss against Victoria and a 40-34 loss to Kinsley.
 
St. John-Hudson (0-3)
at Central Plains (3-0)
St. John-Hudson has another tough test in front of them.
The Tigers are looking for their first win, and the unbeaten Central Plains Oilers loom in front of them.
St. John only averages 21.3 points per game.
That falls short of Central Plains’ 59.3 points per game.

Kinsley (1-2)
at Otis-Bison (2-1)
Otis-Bison looks to rebound from its first loss of the season, a 72-22 setback against Ness City.
The Eagles are the only common opponent for Kinsley and Otis-Bison.
The Coyotes fell 44-6 in Week 1 against Ness City.
The Cougars average 41.3 points per game, while Kinsley averages 15.3 points per game.
The Coyotes are coming off a 40-34 victory over Ellinwood.
 
South Barber (1-2)
at Stafford (3-0)
Stafford looks to continue its success this season.
The Trojans are 3-0 behind running back Ethan Johnson’s strong ground game.
Johnson has rushed for 567 yards and nine touchdowns as Stafford averages 41.3 points per game.
South Barber averages 45 points per game.
