The multi-dimensional Matt Moyd had a Western Athletic Conference meet he’d like to forget.
Eight days ago in Dodge City, Moyd, a senior from Great Bend High School, finished in third place in his speciality — the 110-meter hurdles — in a time of 15.08 seconds.
“I think he will bounce back really well,” Black said of Moyd, who will be competing in multiple events today for the Panthers at a Class 5A regional meet at Salina Stadium in Salina. “He started off really rough last week in the 110-meter hurdles, so he’s going to take it one event at a time and relax and keep his composure.
“We really think he has a great potential to qualify in four events — 110 hurdles, long jump, 100 and 200 — and it will be fun to see how he responds and bounces back at the regional track meet.”
Moyd was also a third-place finisher in the 200-meter dash (22.72) and the long jump (20-9) at the WAC meet.
Moyd will get Hays’ Adam Deterding again today. Deterding won the WAC title in the 110 hurdles last week (14.48).
Moyd captured first place last spring at the regional meet at Friends, clocking a then-personal-best 15.03.
But Moyd managed only a third-place finish in the 5A portion of the all-class state meet at Cessna Stadium on the Wichita State University campus.
Moyd has set personal-best marks of 14.71 in the hurdles and 10.83 in the 100, both at the Junction City invitational to open the 2012 season.
