ST. JOHN — The Macksville High School boys’ track and field team won the St. John Keith Blide track and field invite on Friday.
The Mustangs finished with 126 points to top LaCrosse, which finished with 115.
Adam Oak took first place in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles with times of 14.90 and 39.99, respectively.
Macksville distance runner Seth Filbert claimed first place in the 1,600 run, clocking in at 4:46.42.
“I was really exceptionally pleased with our distance runners,” Macksville head coach Jennifer Gillespie said. “We had personal bests from the 800 and up. We had a great performance from our boys’ 4x400 relay.”
Andy Wendland took second place in the 400 dash with a time of 53.33.
Isaac Seibert got a first-place finish for Macksville in the pole vault with a height of 12 feet.
Lisa Penner led the Lady Mustangs, who finished in seventh place overall, with a first-place finish in the 1,600 run. She crossed the finish line at 5:42.02.

St. John
St. John’s girls, who finished in fifth place overall at the meet, had three first-place finishes.
Teresa Wade claimed the top spot in both the javelin (119-8) and shot put (38-11 1/4).
“Teresa had some good throws,” St. John head coach Trish Wade said of her daughter. “She had been struggling a little bit in the javelin, so it was nice to see her do well in that event.
“Overall, I think we did a pretty good job. Pratt and Ellinwood have some really good runners. It was great meet with some really great competition.”
The Lady Tigers’ 4x800 relay team finished with a time of 10:58.68 to finish first.

Ellinwood
Pedro Montoya finished in first place in the 3,200 run with a time of 10:04.20 to lead the Eagles.
He also finished second in the 1,600, crossing the finish line at 4:51.61.
“He had a great night,” Ellinwood head coach Lyles Lashley said of Montoya. “He had a PR in the 2-mile. He ran a good leg in the 4x800.
“He is just one of the hardest working kids I’ve ever coached.”
The boys finished in third place with 85 points. The girls took second overall with 96.
“There were some really good things and then there were a couple of bad things,” Lashley said. “We wanted to see where we matched up with Pratt. We wanted to get some fast times so we could get good heats at regionals. That was our focus.”

Larned
Alex Lessard and Tylisha Calkins led Larned in the absence of Carrie Kellie and Brendon Lewis, who were at the KU Relays on Friday and Saturday.
Lessard finish second in the high jump with a height of 4-6.
“She’s pressing better,” Larned head coach Al Troyer said. “She’s cleared five feet in practice. Her personal best in a meet is 4-10, so she was a little off today. She’s jumping well. She’s just going to have to work on her technique a bit. She’s getting over the bar well. She’s just not carrying into the pit.”
Calkins finished in second place in the javelin with a distance of 109-7. She chucked the discus 93-1 for sixth place as well.
“That was a PR in the javelin,” Troyer said of Calkins, whose personal best before was 107-5. “She’s worked hard all season. She worked in the offseason. She really wants to do well.”
Kellie took seventh overall in the triple jump at the KU relays with a distance of 35-5.

Central Plains
Central Plains girls finished in third place with 81 points.
The boys finished in eighth place.
Julie Demel finished first in the 200 dash with a time of 28.20, and Maddy Demel won first place in the discus with a distance of 105-4 1/2.
Maddy also finished third in the shot put, reaching a distance of 34-5 3/4.
Tanner Woolf was the top finisher for the boys, taking second place in the shot put with a distance of 40-11.

Stafford
Andy Flores, Austin Ceniti and Samantha Sosa led Stafford with third-place finishes.
Flores reached a height of 9-0 in the pole vault to tie for third place with Pratt’s Shawn Ramos.
Ceniti clocked in at 54.33 in the 400 dash.
The boys finished in seventh place overall while the girls took eighth.
Sosa took third place in the pole vault at 8-0. Regan Harris was right behind her at 7-0.
