Allison Neeland won her first career tournament shooting a 41, one shot over Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year Taylor DeBoer (Hays) at Tuesday’s GBHS Invitational at StoneRidge.
Neeland’s career best performance helped lead the Panthers to a second place finish with a team score of 196 which was ten strokes behind tournament champ Garden City. Hays finished a stroke behind the Panthers at 197 while Liberal (205) and Dodge City (219) rounded out the five-team tournament in order. Neeland’s win also moved her into fourth place in the season-long WAC race earning her first team all-conference honors.
Taylor Hommertzheim placed in the top 10 with a ninth place finish and a season best score of 48.
Other Great Bend competitors include Kaily Griffith (53), Mikayla Bownes (54), Halley Sanders (55) and Brooklyn Burkhart (60).
“We finished the regular season off in a very positive way,” said coach Travis McAtee. “It was so good to see Allison put her career best tournament together at our home invitational. We seem to be peaking at the proper time. This was our best finish of the season and hopefully this gives the girls some confidence heading into regionals.”
This year’s 5A regional tournament will be held on Monday, October 12 at Salina.
