Nickerson wins openers at Russell
Central Plains teams play Tuesday

RUSSELL — Nickerson’s basketball teams swept Plainville Monday in the Amos Morris George Stevens Basketball Classic at Russell High School. The Central Plains boys play Lincoln at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Russell High School. The Oiler girls play Lincoln at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday.
• NICKERSON BOYS 62, PLAINVILLE 56 — Braden Stewart scored 21 points and the Panthers converted 12 free throws in the fourth period for a 62-56 victory over Plainville. Tanner Schrag (11) and Peyton Kuhns (10) scored in double figures for the Panthers, who made 17 of 22 free throws. Nickerson meets Ell-Saline at 8:30 p.m. Friday.
• NICKERSON GIRLS 59, PLAINVILLE 49 — Nickerson’s girls outlasted Plainville 59-49 in overtime when Madison Ontjes scored six points in the extra period. Tara Davis and Sophie Mader each scored 17 points, two apiece in the extra period. Brylee Engelland scored 12 points.
Plainville’s Maeson Dewey scored 13 points. Plainville scored 24 points in the fourth period for a 45-45 tie.
The Russell and Nickerson girls play at 7 p.m. Friday. The game will be aired 95.9 Jack FM and KRSL.com.
• RUSSELL GIRLS 45, ELL SALINE 30 — Russell’s Jaclyn Schulte scored 20 points and Delainey Pospichal added 14 points to spark Russell’s girls past Ell-Saline. The Broncos led 15-5 after one period and 35-20 after three quarters. The Broncos made 15 of 19 free throws.
• ELL-SALINE BOYS 62, RUSSELL 55 — Ell-Saline outscored Russell 20-2 in the decisive second period after Russell led 23-10. Hunter Kindelsparger scored 21 points, 10 in the second period. Russell’s Kyle Farmer scored 16 points and Travis Ochs added 15 points.
Russell meets Plainville at 8:30 p.m. Friday at Russell Middle School.
