CLAFLIN — The undefeated Central Plains girls put on a shooting clinic Tuesday. The No. 1 ranked 2A Oilers shot 80 percent from the floor in the first half for a 77-35 victory over No. 2 ranked Class 1A-Div. 2 Otis-Bison Cougars.
Emily Ryan led the way with an impressive 28 point performance as the Oilers (13-0, 3-0 CPL) rolled to their 13th straight win of the season.
The Oilers got off to a 13-4 start behind seven points from Ryan. The Oilers held a 26-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Oilers were also firing on all cylinders in the second quarter. Otis-Bison struggled to get past the Central Plains defense, scoring just four points.
Emily Ryan connected on three attempts from behind the arc, Janae Ryan connected on two of her own and Chelsey Bieberle added another.
Six of the Oilers’ 13 three-pointers came in the second quarter as they outscored Otis-Bison 24-5 to take a 50-20 halftime lead. The Oilers scored 39 points on 3-pointers and 34 on 2-pointers.
Great ball movement allowed the Oilers to split the Otis-Bison defense and find open shots all night.
“The reason we shoot so well is because we make that extra pass,” said Central Plains coach Pat Stiles. “This is the best passing team I’ve ever had. ... Just so unselfish.”
Ryan scored 22 of her 28 points in the first half.
The Oilers defense remained strong in the second half, holding Otis-Bison to single-digits in each of the final two quarters.
Central Plains outscored Otis-Bison 15-8 in the third and 12-7 in the fourth to finish with a 38-point victory.
Taylor Regan finished with a team-high 14 points for the Cougars (13-2, 3-1 CPL).
Cassidy Crites and Janae Ryan each added 13 for the Oilers while Keeley Hipp finished with nine.
