Oilers blank Cougars in league matchup

CLAFLIN — Central Plains High School quarterback Braeden Crites rushed for two touchdowns and threw for two more , leading the Oilers over Otis-Bison 40-0 on Friday night.
The Central Plains defense earned a Central Prairie League shutout in its home opener. Colton Zink opened the scoring with a 22-yard interception return for a touchdown for the Oilers (2-0).
Crites had 1- and 8-yard touchdown runs, and completed a 15-yard TD pass to Hunter Ingham.
Crites connected with Layne Bieberle for a 38-yard score.
The Cougars dropped to 0-2 on the season.

ST. JOHN — Victoria was able to slow down St. John tailback Schuyler Brown, who rushed for 37 yards and one touchdown in the Tigers’ loss.
Knights quarterback Sam Ottley rushed for 121 yards and three TDs, and completed 6 of 8 passes for 184 yards and two scores.
The Tigers (1-1) only managed 168 yards of total offense in the loss.

MACKSVILLE — Macksville’s Tanner Tranbarger threw for 198 yards and rushed for 147 yards, but Ness City managed to edge the Mustangs (0-2) in a Central Prairie League game.
Tranbarger rushed for 10-, 35-, 14- and 65-yard TDs, and he completed three scores to Simon Miller, who had 145 yards.
Ness City (2-0) utilized seven ball carriers to total 384 yards and five touchdowns.
The Eagles also had two defensive touchdowns, Cole Stoeklein’s fumble recovery in the end zone, and Dylan Winter’s 40-yard interception return.

HOISINGTON — La Crosse led 22-0 at halftime, and Hoisington answered with 18 points in the third quarter but couldn’t come back against the Leopards.
La Crosse (2-0) amassed 437 yards of total offense, led by quarterback Jack Garcia, who completed 14 of 25 passes for 274 yards and four touchdowns.
Garcia threw one interception to Hoisington middle linebacker Avery Urban.
Urban rushed for one touchdown and 77 yards, and Hunter Hanzlick punched the ball into the end zone on a 2-yard dive for the Cardinals (0-2).
Hoisington’s Nolan McCurry rushed for a team-leading 83 yards.

Stafford 48, Burrton 0
STAFFORD — Stafford rushed for 302 yards in the Trojan’s shutout over Burrton.
Senior Tristin Paulsen led Stafford (1-1) with 159 yards and three touchdowns.
Ethan Johnson rushed for a trio of scores as well, gaining 127 yards.
Austin Ceniti also rushed for a TD.
