HAYS — The Otis-Bison Cougars earned third place in Class 1A Division 2 state volleyball with a 25-23, 25-20 victory over Waverly Saturday at Fort Hays State University. The Cougars finish with a 28-13 record in their first state volleyball trip in 25 years. The Cougars are coached by Janell Meier.
Otis-Bison libero Lacey Mitchell and middle hitter Taylor Regan earned Class 1A-Division 2 All-Tournament honors. 
State champion Axtell defeated the Cougars 25-18, 25-17 in the semifinals before beating Grainfield-Wheatland-Grinnell, 26-24, 25-17 in the championship match.
Otis-Bison won two of three matches Friday, beating Fowler 25-19, 25-23; and Ingalls 25-12, 25-14. The Cougars lost a tight match to Grainfield-Wheatland-Grinnell 26-24, 25-21. The Cougars appeared to score a point to win the first set 25-22, but an official whistled a Cougar player for touching a fingertip on the net.
