Panther baseball splits with Eagles

Great Bend pitcher Alex Schremmer threw six solid innings to power the Panthers to a 7-2 baseball victory over Colby for a split of Friday’s doubleheader. Colby (7-3) won the opener 6-4 at the Great Bend Sports Complex.
The Panthers (5-7, 1-3 WAC) play at WAC leader Hays High (6-0, 4-0 WAC) Tuesday.
COLBY 6, GREAT BEND 4 (G1) – Colby led 4-0 and held off the Panthers behind pitcher Gage Winger.
Three walks by Townshend Kurth were followed by RBI singles by J.T. Zerr, Mason Wright and Zack Hart for a 3-0 lead. Tucker Branum’s bases-loaded walk gave Colby a 4-0 lead.
Panther Koy Brack scored on a fourth-inning sacrifice fly by Kurth. Cal Kaiser scored on a fifth-inning error for a 4-2 deficit.
Wright’s RBI single and Hart’s bases-loaded walk off reliever Koy Brack gave Colby a 6-2 lead after 51/2 innings. Brack tripled and scored on Joey Soupiset’s sixth-inning groundout. Dalton Bieker scored on Chance Perry’s seventh-inning groundout.
GREAT BEND 7, COLBY 2 (G2) – Schremmer struck out seven batters and yielded five hits after trailing 2-0. Brack and Soupiset each drove home two runs.
Colby’s Hart singled home Wright in the first inning. Zerr singled home Kyler Britt in the second frame.
Colin Hall was forced home on a hit by pitch to start a three-run third inning. Perry and Brack raced scored on Souipset’s perfect sacrifice for a 3-2 lead.
Panther right fielder Bieker delivered the game’s key defensive play when he threw out Zerr at home to end the fourth inning.
Kurth’s single scored Brack in the fifth inning for a 4-2 lead. Brack’s sixth-inning triple scored Bieker and Schremmer for a 6-2 lead. Brack scored on a wild pitch.
