Great bend's Kelby Titus

HAYS — Great Bend’s Kelby Titus shot 6-over-par 77 to place fourth in Tuesday’s Hays High Bob Blazer Golf Invitational. Play started with temperatures in the low 50s accompanied by a brisk wind and drizzle. It ended in rainy weather the last four holes at Smoky Hill Country Club.
“Kelby played a solid round starting on the back nine with a 1-over-par 36,” said Great Bend coach Travis McAtee. “He had some struggles finishing in the wet weather on the front nine, but still finished at +6, a score of 77. The day was cool and breezy and late in the tournament, very wet from the rain over the final four holes.”
The Panthers finished with a 402 team total that placed 10th. Great Bend competed with a four-man team to provide its other team members a chance to play at home Monday. Panthers Jared Divis (89), Aaron Stein (109) and Payton Doll (127) also competed.
“Jared was able to shoot 89, for a personal best score in a varsity tournament,” McAtee said. “This was a definite step in the right direction. He knows he’s capable of scoring even better. Aaron and Payton are both capable of hitting good golf shots in just their second year playing. I’ve got to help them learn to be a golfer and manage their game at a higher level. Their scores and our team scores will improve as the season progresses.”
Garden City sophomore Sion Audrian shot 2-over 73 to edge teammate Logan Durst (74). Garden City won the tournament (307) by 11 strokes over Hays High.
