Great Bend’s Michael Harbaugh placed third (45) at the Great Bend junior varsity nine-hole tournament Monday at Stoneridge Country Club. Hamish Brown (50) placed eighth.
Garden City (194) placed first followed by Hutchinson (197) and Great Bend A (202). Ishmael Rodriguez (50), Kaden Schroeder (54) and Max Jerke (54) also counted for the Panthers’ team score.
“We’re happy with a couple medalists for the day and most of the players competed fairly well on a tough day in the first JV tournament,” said Great Bend coach Travis McAtee. “ For many of our players, it was their first-ever golf tournament. Our returning, more experienced players all played respectably and we expect those guys to compete better and better as the season goes on.
Garden City’s Kyle Doll (43) earned medalist honors in a tiebreaker over Hays High’s Miles Keller (43).
Golfers were greeted by 40-degree weather and drizzle.
“It was a tough day with cool temperatures and quite a bit of moisture in the air, so the biggest challenge was keeping your hands warm,” said Travis McAtee. “Some of the players learned a valuable lesson about being prepared for conditions that didn’t match the day’s weather forecast.
The JV competes April 2 at Russell.
