WICHITA- Eric Martinez split four goals into the first and second half as the Great Bend soccer team rolled to an 8-0 shutout victory over Junction City to close out the annual Titan Classic Saturday.

“We started out strong and we were able to keep our momentum,” said coach Gus Prieto. “Eric has had his best offensive performance of the season so far and our defense has played as solid as I’ve seen them.”

Martinez’s first score came before the midway point of the opening half from an assist by Misael Rodriguez. Four minutes later Carlos Franco found the net on a cross pass from Brian Galindo. Rodriguez found Martinez again on a pass that Martinez was able to sweep into the net as the Panthers went to the break leading Junction, 3-0.

Rodriguez started things for Great Bend in the second half on an angle kick which found the inside corner of the goal giving the Panthers a 4-0. Franco followed up moments later scoring his final goal of the game before Martinez would score consecutively to wrap up his day’s performance. Galindo put the contest out of reach with the final goal for the 8-0 win.

The Panthers finished the Titan Classic at a perfect 2-0 mark and bump their season record to 2-2.
