WICHITA — Great Bend’s soccer team forced overtime with a pair of goals, but lost 3-2 on Wichita East’s goal by Jose Bernal in the Wichita South Titan Classic. Great Bend has lost both games by one goal in the Titan Classic.
Great Bend (1-3) will play Wichita West at 9 a.m. Saturday at Wichita South.
Jesus Sanchez and Josue Rodriguez scored second-half goals with Eduardo Villalobos contributing an assist for a 2-2 tie after they trailing 2-0.
“You focus on the positive and we’re progressing in the right direction,” said Great Bend coach Jesus Loera, Jr. “We’re working the ball better up the field after winning the ball. We’re learning to pass it quicker to attack on offense. I was pleased with our effort. Once we started gaining possession, we passed it to the next guy.”
The Blue Aces scored the winning goal five minutes into overtime. Panther Jesus Sanchez slowed East ninth-grader Ivan Quezada, the Blue Aces’ best threat.
“Jesus did a good job containing their best scorer. Quezada is faster than anyone we have, and he got away from us,” Loera said.
