JUNCTION CITY — Double winner LoCora Bryant led the Great Bend Panthers, who won six events at the Junction City Track Invitational. Bryant beat her best 100-meter time at state last year.
Bryant captured the 100 meters (12.53) to post the state’s third-fastest time and 200 meters (26.22) to post the state’s fifth-fastest time. Bryant placed sixth in the 5A 100 (12.59) and fourth in the 5A 200 (25.4) last year.
Great Bend 5A state runner-up Kerby Depenbusch captured the 3,200 (10:15.12) with teammate Sage Cauley the runner-up (10:28.24). Depenbusch was edged at the finish line in the 1,600 (4:37.7) by Shawnee Heights’ Hunter Henderson (4:37.3). Depenbusch placed second in the 3,200 (9:33.18) and third in the 1,600 (4:27.56) in 5A last year.
The Panthers’ girls 3,200-meter relay (10:49.54) placed first with Taylor Lindberg, McKenna Esfeld, Olivia Rugan and Paloma Sandoval competing. Fry, Esfeld and Sanodval return from a sixth-place relay. The 1,600-meter quartet of Candice Smith, Esfeld, Sandoval and Bryant placed runner-up (4:18.83).
Other champions were pole vaulter Braxton Schooler (12-0) and high jumper Jaclynn Schroeder (5-2) followed by runner-up Camryn Dunkeack (5-0).
The Panthers’ 3,200-meter relay (8:47.18) placed second with Jesus Sanchez, Evan Hammond, Sage Cauley and Collin Hammond competing.
Panther Josh Tomlin placed second in the 800 (2:11.22) behind winner Juan Tovar of Junction City (2:09.14).
Junction City’s boys placed first (159.5) and Great Bend scored 88 points to finish fourth. The Junction City girls finished first (187.5) and the Panther girls placed third with 93 points.
