TOPEKA – Leavenworth’s girls started the second half on an 11-0 run to race past Great Bend's girls 59-40 in Friday’s Topeka Capital Basketball Classic semifinal.
The Panthers (8-3) played Washburn Rural in Saturday’s third-place game at Washburn Rural High School.

The Pioneers outscored the Panthers 19-9 in the third quarter for a 42-29 lead after a 23-20 halftime lead. The Pioneers’ physical size and height advantage proved too much for the Panthers to handle.
Great Bend’s Carley Brack worked inside for 22 points, including 11 free throws. The panthers converted 23 of 32 free throws. Carly Dreiling added nine points and Camryn Dunekack scored eight points.

No. 2 Class 5A state-ranked Leavenworth (11-1) was paced by Aarika Lister with 14 points and Terrion Moore added 12 points. Moore scored three baskets and Lister and Cierra Robinson scored in the 11-0 run. The Pioneers played St. Thomas Aquinas in the championship, a rematch of last year’s Class 5A state championship won by Aquinas.
