Panthers meet Newton at 2

GODDARD — The Great Bend High School Panthers (13-7) take on Newton (7-13) today at 2 in a first-round game of a Class 5A regional baseball tournament.
Great Bend is the third seed, and Newton is the sixth seed.
The winner takes on the victor of the 4 o’clock game, pitting Goddard (17-3) and Valley Center (6-14), for the right to advance to the state tournament.
The regional championship game is set for 6.

Lady Panthers play Liberal at 4
It’s win or go home as the Great Bend softball team meets Western Athletic Conference opponent Liberal at Goddard-Eisenhower today at 4:30 in a Class 5A regional tournament game.
The Lady Panthers (16-4) are coming off a regular season that saw them win the WAC title, recording a 7-1 conference record. They are the No. 3 seed in the regional tournament.
Liberal (9-11) is the No. 6 seed.
The winner moves on to face the winner of the Goddard-Esienhower-Wichita West game, which begins at 3 p.m., in the championship game.
The championship game begins at 6.
Eisenhower (17-3) is the tournament’s second seed, while West (0-18) is the No. 7 seed.
