HUTCHINSON — The Great Bend girls golf team continues to improve with a season-best 18-hole score (380) featuring five players posting career-best 18-hole scores. The Panthers finished 10th, but shot their lowest score of the season.
“Five girls scored their career personal best,” said Great Bend coach Travis McAtee. “We were pleased to have four girls shoot in the 90s with seven 9-hole scores in the 40s. Team-wise, we had our best 18-hole scoring tournament of the season.
Great Bend’s McKayla Williams placed 25th (92); returning state qualifier Halley Sanders, 29th (95); Kaylee Reiser, 31st, (95); Camryn Dunekack, 43rd (98); Cailee McMullen, 54th (102) and Grace Soupiset, 92nd (120).
“The Hutchinson tournament is a big tournament with solid teams,” McAtee said. “We’re pleased that our individual scores continue to improve. We’re looking forward to hosting our invitational and a 5A regional in Great Bend.”
Wichita Trinity’s Hannah Hawks, last year’s 4A runner-up, was medalist (72) with an eagle and a pair of birdies to edge teammate Madison Slayton (74). Defending 4A state champion Wichita Trinity (340) edged 6A Manhattan High (342) for first place.
