Great Bend High School’s wrestling team captured three All-Western Athletic Conference first-team selections this season.
Seniors Chris Burley (126-pound weight class), Bryce Hofmeister (160) and Gunar Brewer (220) were given the top honor.
Ryan DesLauriers (106), Arturo Sanchez (113), Greg Burley (132) and Jacob Crane (285) were all honorable mention.
Chris Burley won his second career Class 5A state title this season. He was runner-up last year at 120 and a state champion his sophomore season at 112.
Hofmeister captured fifth place at the state tournament, going 3-2 at Hartman Arena in Park City with three pins.
Brewer did not qualify for the state tournament, ending his senior season at a regional tournament at Panther Fieldhouse.
Sanchez, also a senior, was eliminated from the postseason during regional play as well.
Junior Greg Burley fell in a third-place match at the state tournament.
Crane, also a junior, was eliminated from the state tournament’s consolation bracket in the second round.
Junior Ryan DesLauriers ended his season at the regional tournament.
Hays’ Preston Weigel (195) was selected as WAC Wrestler of the Year.
WAC Coach of the Year was Garden City’s Carlos Prieto. He was also the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association Coach of the Year for 6A.
