A winter storm in late April?

That was the case in Great Bend Monday night, as an unseasonably cold, wintry blast descended on the Golden Belt. The temperature dipped below 32 degrees, the winds kicked in and ice pellets were visible. By this morning, there was a substantial amount of snow on the ground.

It wiped out virtually the entire sports schedule today.

As of 9:10 this morning, the Great Bend High School swim team's trip to Hutchinson for a 3:30 p.m. meet was still on.

Great Bend's Western Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader with Hays at the Great Bend Sports Complex — postponed today — has been moved to Thursday at 4 p.m. — weather permitting.
