LARNED — Larned’s baseball team will ride strong momentum into Thursday’s scheduled doubleheader at Class 5A Great Bend after a 9-2 and 6-1 sweep over Lyons. Larned sports a 12-6 record.
INDIANS 9, LIONS 2 — Austin Gladow worked a nifty complete game with 77 pitches, 55 for strikes. Mason Perez drove in two runs and Gage Skelton, Jon Herter, Austin Gladow and Carson Smith added RBIs.
Perez and Smith scored on a second-inning error. Larned broke a 2-2 tie when Skelton’s single scored Smith and Schartz scored on a fourth-inning error.
In the fifth, Perez forced home Herter on a hit by pitch. Mason Burris scored on Smith’s groundball. In the sixth, Tristen Burger scored on Herter’s double. Gladow hit a sacrifce fly and Perez’s single scored Barger.
INDIANS 6, LIONS 1 — Pitcher Jon Herter worked six innings in 81 pitches, yielding one run and five hits.
Dalton Bright drove home two runs. Mason Schartz, Skelton, Herter and Alex Barger also drove home runs.
The Indians scored three runs in the third inning. Bright’s single scored Smith and Schartz. Herter’s triple scored Bright for a 3-0 lead.
A three-run fifth started when Schartz’s triple scored Smith after a single. Gage Skelton’s squeeze bunt scored Schartz. Alex Barger’s squeeze bunt scored Tristan Burger.
