St. John falls against Wichita South

PRATT — In a low-scoring affair, the St. John-Hudson High School girls’ basketball team lost their first game of the season on Saturday night.
Wichita South outscored the Lady Tigers, who are ranked No. 3 in Class 1A Division-I in the latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association poll, 6-4 in overtime to win the Pratt Girls’ Tournament of Champions.
Jamie Waters was the only St. John player in double figures with 12 points.
Neither team was able to score more than nine points in any period as both teams finished with 18 turnovers.
South won in rebounds 21-12.
St. John (12-1) hosts Norwich on Tuesday night.

Hesston 50, Hoisington 26
HESSTON — After falling behind 14-2 just eight minutes into the game, Hoisington couldn’t regain a foothold on Saturday.
Hesston, which is ranked No. 4 in 4A, was led by Cami Richardson and Kesley Unruh, who each scored 12 points.
Hoisington’s Rylie Koester matched their point total with 12 to lead the Lady Cardinals (6-8).
Jordin Greer finished with 10 points.
Hoisington hosts Great Bend on Tuesday night.

Kinsley 48, Macksville 29
PRATT — In the fifth-place game of the 54 Girls’ Classic, Kinsley was able to top Macksville.
The Lady Mustangs drop to 3-9 on the season.
They host La Crosse on Tuesday night.

Hesston 64,
Hoisington 54, OT
HESSTON — It was the battle of the giants as Hoisington’s 6-foot-8 center Cody Stetler faced Hesston 6-6 power forward Wyatt McKinney.
Stetler finished with a game-high 30 points for Hoisington, but Hesston was able to top the Cardinals in overtime.
McKinney finished with 24 points to lead the Swathers, which is ranked No. 10 in 4A.
Hoisington drops ot 11-3 on the season.
