St. John, Macksville teams place first

LARNED —The St. John boys and Macksville girls swept first place and Larned’s boys lost a tiebreaker for first place in the Abby Trapp-Prescott Cross Country Invitational. Runners competed in extreme heat with temperatures hitting 100 degrees and south winds blowing to 25 mph.
St. John scored 21 points to outdistance Hays-Thomas More Prep (64) in the junior-division division. St. John’s Quincy Smith placed runner-up (19:13.26) behind winner Chris Nemechek of Holcomb (17:48.83) in the junior-senior division.
Tiger Cashe McVey, who plays football on Fridays, placed fourth (19:25.84) and Mason Osborne placed sixth (19:30.77). Stafford’s Cayden Vrozek placed ninth (19:43.67).
St. John’s A.J. Miller won the freshman-sophomnore division (18;26.76) and teammate Dylan Reed placed 10th (20:39.46).
Hoisington’s Jessi Kindschner placed fifth in the junior-senior girls division.
Macksville’s girls scored 15 points to capture the freshman-sophomore division. Lydia Mendez placed 14th (27:36.96) and Anna Suiter placed 17th (29:43.59).
Central Plains’ Hannah Redetzke placed runner-up (23:27.5), Larned’s Cierra Nord placed third (23:35.98), Central Plains’ Monica Short was sixth (23:45.7) and Larned’s Makayla Leiker placed seventh (25;56.32).
Larned’s boys tied Lakin (38), but lost the tiebreaker. Larned’s Braydon Lothman placed third (19:42.13). Hoisington’s Dayne Yott was runner-up (19:14.55).
