STAFFORD COUNTY — St. John’s Cole Kinnamon birdied four holes and shot 8-over-par 78 to earn medalist honors and lead the Tigers to the Central Prairie Golf Championship at the Stafford County Country Club. Kinnamon birdied Nos. 5, 7, 9 and 12 to help offset six bogeys and three double bogeys.
St. John (353) beat runner-up Ness City (377) by 24 strokes. St. John’s Greyson Collins placed seventh (91), Cade Roberts, eighth (92) and Braden Witt, ninth (92).
Runner-up Bryce Miller of Central Plains (79) birdied Nos. 1, 11 and 12 to shoot 9-over-par 79. Central Plains finished third (382).
St. John placed ninth (403) at 2A state in 2016. Kinnamon placed 22nd (88), Collins 64th (105), Roberts 66th (106) and Luke Mercer, 80th (115) last year at Salina Country Club.
St. John travels to Prairie Pines Golf Course in Johnson City and Central Plains competes at Salina Municipal Golf Course in Monday’s Class 2A golf regionals.
