It wasn’t easy, but now it’s over.
For the Great Bend High School girls’ basketball team, everything that came before is of no consequence, aside for seeding purposes, and now the Lady Panthers face the cream of the crop at the Class 5A State Tournament, starting on Thursday at the Topeka Expocentre.
Great Bend enter Thursday as the No. 3 seed, a good draw considering the Lady Panthers are one of three teams at the tournament with a 20-2 record, the other two being fourth-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas and fifth-seeded Kapaun-Mt. Carmel.
There are also two teams at 21-1 (Leavenworth and Salina Central).
The Lady Panthers face Topeka Seaman, which is the sixth seed at 19-3.
The game starts at 8:15 p.m.

• Central Plains Lady Oilers
As the No. 1 seed, Central Plains gets eight-seeded Pittsburg-St. Mary’s Colgan in the first round of the 2A State Tournament on Wednesday at Manhattan’s Bramlage Coliseum. The game starts at 3 p.m.
The Lady Oilers are one of two teams that are an undefeated 23-0, along with Winchester-Jeff Co. North.

• St. John-Hudson Tigers
The reigning 1A Division-I state champions, St. John-Hudson, is now taking their talents to Manhattan for the 2A State Tournament.
The Tigers, who haven’t lost since the 2012-13 regular season, are the No. 1 seed at 23-0, challenging No. 8 seed Washington County (14-8) in the first round, starting at 3 p.m. on Thursday.

• Macksville Mustangs
Macksville (16-7) is the No. 6 seed for the 1A D-I State Tournament at White Auditorium in Emporia.
The Mustangs look to get past third-seeded Blue Rapids-Valley Heights (21-2) on Wednesday night at 8:15.
