DODGE CITY — State champion Pawnee Heights swept the top awards as Jeff Chambers was named 6-man Coach of the Year and tailback Kade Scott was named 6-man Player of the Year.
The Tigers (9-0) captured the 6-man state championship 62-12 over Cheylin. Pawnee Heights resumed a high school program last year after not competing for five years. The Tigers finished as 6-man state runner-up last year.
“This is my first one as a head coach and I’ll remember it forever,” said coach Chambers.
Tigers earning first-team all-state honors also included Kade Scott, back, linebacker, kick returner; Dalton Hamby, defensive end; and Caleb Karst, kicker.
Quarterback Trace Baker and center Caleb Karst earned honorable mention all-state honors.
“This can’t happen without us being a family. And that’s what this is — it’s a family. Let these seniors, juniors, sophomores and freshmen know how much we appreciate what we’ve done.”
