Maldanado, Nieves spark Bat Cats

DODGE CITY – Great Bend’s Colter Maldanado and JoJo Nieves ignited an 18-1 rout of the Dodge City A’s Thursday with four RBIs apiece. The Bat Cats (6-1, 2-0) play Mulvane at 3 p.m. in Saturday’s doubleheader scheduled at Al Burns Memorial Field.
Maldanado hit a 2-run single, an RBI single and forced home a run on a hit-by-pitch. Nieves ripped a 2-run double and 2-run single. Bodi Waller drilled a 3-run homer for the Bat Cats’ first home run of the summer.
Maldanado’s 2-run single and Dawson French’s RBI single keyed a 4-run first inning. Maldanado singled home Conner Allen in the third inning.
Waller’s 3-run homer capped a 10-run fourth inning. Nieves hit a 2-run single. Allen, Kreutzer, Ryan Silva and Maldanado also drove home runs in the fourth inning. Nieves hit a 2-run double in a 3-run fifth inning.
The Bat Cats took advantage of more than a dozen walks and hit batters.
Bat Cats pitcher Brayden Tower earned the victory over Matt Nedved started the ballgame.
