LYONS — Rosewood Services Inc. had eleven experienced riders climb back onto the saddle for another season of horse-show competitions.
A group of riders competed at the South Central Stock Horse Association horse show on June 23-24 at the Celebration Center in Lyons.
Extremely hot temperatures didn’t prevent riders from recording solid performances, competing in three events — Showmanship, Horsemanship and Trail. Rosewood earned seven first-place awards and recorded 25 finishes in the top 3.
“Lyons has a nice riding facility so we enjoy competing there, but it was still way too hot on both days,” Rosewood Ranch manager Eric Hammond said. “Everyone competes under the same conditions, though. I thought our riders did a great job of staying focused on their events throughout the competition, despite the high temperatures.”
Rosewood’s riders started the season with the SCSHA competition in Kingman on June 2-3 at the Kingman Arena.
The riders competing for Rosewood in at least one of the shows were Tim Barry, Charles Bortz, Jaime Crone, Chris Devine, Herbie Douglass, Patricia Ledesma, Shawn Ledesma, Mary Minear, Krystal Thorne, Josh Trimmer and Melissa Trimmer.
Next on the schedule, the riders will compete July 28-29 at the Hutchinson State Fair Grounds. They will end their horse-show season in mid-August at the National Snaffle Bit Association World Championship Show in Tulsa.
Rosewood’s show competitors train weekly at Rosewood Ranch, a 750-acre full-working horse ranch near Pawnee Rock. The Ranch serves 45 adults from Rosewood Services. It also provides services on a weekly basis to more than 40 children with developmental disabilities.
