Six-time state champion Central Plains extends record

CENTRAL PLAINS GIRLS 50, ELYRIA 31

PEABODY – The Central Plains girls stretched their state record postseason streak to 44 wins in a row with a 50-31 victory over McPherson Elyria in Saturday’s 1A Division 2 basketball substate.

Brynna Hammeke led the Oilers with 17 points and Jennah Jeffrey scored 12 points and Kassidy Nixon added 10 points.

The Oilers (19-3) will play at home Monday against St. Paul in a 6 p.m. quarterfinal state tournament game. If the Oilers win, they advance to the Division 2 state tournament at Barton Community College.

The Oilers have swept a state record six consecutive state basketball titles and had a seventh title stopped when the Kansas State High School Activities Association halted the state tournament last year.
