DERBY — A near-perfect start by Zach Curry was wasted when the Great Bend Bat Cats’ bullpen imploded with five walks and two hit batters in the final two innings. Curry threw 110 pitches and worked into the ninth inning.
The Derby Twins walked off with a 5-4 Jayhawk League baseball victory Monday when Wes Anderson was hit by a Neil Lemmons pitch with the bases loaded. Lemmons hit two batters and walked two batters in the 10th inning.

"We were in total control and found another way to lose," said Bat Cats coach Roger Ward. "We're not making that key pitch. We had a letdown and let one slip away again."

The Bat Cats (0-4 Jayhawk) have dropped three one-run games, all because of the ineffectiveness of the bullpen.

"It's tough to lose those games and it’s tough to be in the cellar," Ward said. "At least were right in there. Our pitching is lined up and we jumped out to a lead.  I feel good about our roster."
Derby led 1-0 when Michael Urquidi singled home Brent Herbert in the first inning.
The Bat Cats roared ahead 4-1. Blaine Ray homered after Austin McNicholas singled for a 2-1 lead after three innings. Ray’s fourth-inning single drove home Thomas Alexander and Reece Johnson for a 4-1 lead.
Derby’s Braxton Wehrle scored on a sixth-inning wild pitch.
Herbert walked and Urquidi doubled him home to end Curry’s night in the ninth inning. Reliever Anthony Schatz walked two batters and struck out Toi Moyer to load the bases. Lemmons induced Toren Craig to hit an infield pop fly to second baseman Austin McNicholas. Craig was called out on an infield fly, but Urquidi scored when McNicholas mishandled the baseball for a tying error.
Derby’s Braxton Wehrle and Aaron Beaulaurier walked and Houston Parker and Wes Anderson were hit by 10th-inning pitches.
