ST. JOHN – St. John’s Hunter Smith stayed on fire with a 20-point night to spark the Tigers past Canton-Galva 59-31 in Thursday’s Burrton 1A basketball substate. Elijah Delp scored 14 points.

St. John (14-7) plays No. 1 seed Macksville March 3 at Burrton. The Tigers surprised Central Prairie League runner-up Macksville 59-49 last week.

ROZEL – Alex Carlson scored 19 points and Adam Hands (13) and Braden Colglazier (10) scored in double figures to spark a 55-40 victory over Hutchinson Central Christian in Thursday’s Burrton 1A basketball substate. The Cougars sliced a double-digit lead to 29-27 on a 9-2 scoring burst behind Emilio Ibarra’s five points and Andrew Yoder’s four points. The Tigers responded for a 39-29 lead after three quarters.

The Tigers (10-10) earn a semifinal game against McPherson Elyria (14-6) in a rematch of last year’s 1A state semifinal game at Great Bend.
