ST. JOHN GIRLS 63, WICHITA SUNRISE 59 (1ST) – Once the St. John Tigers defeated rival Central Plains for the first time in 13 years, there was no way they would be denied a championship.
Reagan Bonner rescued St. John’s girls with a career high 21 points to spark the Tigers to a hard-fought 63-59 victory over Wichita Sunrise, loaded with international players.
Bonner scored 13 points as St. John (10-1) outscored Sunrise 24-12 in the decisive third period. St. John's Most Valuable Player Heidi Fisher scored 19 points.
Sunrise's all-tournament Sandra Hracka scored 21 points. All-tournament Marija Sikic (15), Nela Charynak (11) and Annika Moore (10) scored in double figures.

CENTRAL PLAINS 41, MACKSVILLE 30 (3RD) – All-tournament Marilyn Soeken scored 23 points for Central Plains, which held off Macksville 41-30 in a back-and-forth game for third place at the Midwinter Classic. Addy Ogle scored nine points. Soeken won the Midwinter 3-point contest and Ogle won free-throw contest.
The Oilers trailed 14-5 at the end of the first quarter before gradually turning the game around the next three quarters. The Oilers outscored the Mustangs 12-4 in the fourth quarter.
“I’m very proud of the girls for climbing out of an early hole," said Central Plains coach Pat Stiles. "It would have been easy to quit after getting down early. Our determination really showed tonight.”
The Oilers play Sterling and Macksville this week.
Macksville’s all-tournament Mayce Russell played brilliantly with 24 points, six steals and three assists.
