ST. JOHN 37, HOISINGTON 29

HOISINGTON – St. John’s Eli Delp drilled a pair of 3-pointers and Trey Fisher converted five clutch free throws as the 1A Tigers upset No. 5 state-ranked 3A Hoisington 37-29 in Tuesday’s non-league basketball game.

Delp scored 11 points and Fisher scored nine points. No. 4 1A St. John (10-3) converted 13 of 19 free throws. Tanner Halling delivered six points, eight rebounds and four steals. Marshall Woolf dished out five assists. The Tigers forced 18 turnovers and limited the Cardinals to 25 percent shooting. 

Hoisington was led by Drew Nicholson with eight points and Mason Haxton added six points. Ryan Woydziak dished out four assists. Hoisington (11-2) had a nine-game winning streak snapped.

HOISINGTON — Hoisington’s Keeley Wolf and Jacy Guthrie converted game-tying 3-pointers to force the game to double overtime, but St. John escaped with a hard-fought 38-35 non-league basketball victory. Wolf’s 3-pointer tied the score at 28 after regulation. Guthrie’s 3-pointer tied the score at 31.

The Tigers (6-7) survived when Darby Smith scored six points in overtime and Bree Meyer added three points in extra time. Smith scored 12 points and Bree Meyer added eight points. 

Hoisington (2-11) was paced by Wolf with 10 points and Suzanna Schneider with eight points. The Cardinals converted five 3-pointers.
