Oilers' doubles win regional
PHILLIPSBURG — The Central Plains doubles team of Brynna Hammeke/Kyla Metro captured the 3-1A tennis regional with a 6-3, 6-2 championship victory over Ellsworth's Jaycee Cunningham/Stephanie Soukup. Hammeke/Metro placed fifth in 3-1A doubles last year. They defeated Central Plains teammates Jennah Jeffrey/Lauren Oeser 6-2, 6-1 in the semifinals. Ellsworth's Nicole Haase/Maggie Windholz downed Jeffrey/Metro 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 for third place.
Ellsworth (8 points) captured first place with Central Plains (7) placing runner-up.
Victoria's Brooklyn Kuhn downed Phillipsburg's Jacie Roth 6-2, 6-1 for first place. Marysville's Shea Kramer downed Trego's Caroline Brungardt, 6-3, 6-2 for third place.

SCOTT CITY — Larned Audrey Manry qualified for 3-1A state tennis with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 championship victory over Colby's Makenzie Dodson. Manry (26-4) downed Scott City's Laia Mur Cases, 6-3, 6-1 in the semifinals.
Larned's doubles team Ava Mull/Sarah Manry and Kathryn Holt/Abigail Holt lost 3-1A state bids in tiebreakers in the quarterfinals. Mull/Manry lost 4-6, 6-1 (11-9) to Cimarron's Liz Goetz/Emily Goetz. Holt/Holt lost 4-6, 6-1 (10-7) to Scott City's Rhiley Stoppel/Madison Westergard.

MAIZE — Great Bend's Western Athletic champions Abbie Moyers/Anna Popp (30-4) ended a spectacular season with a hard-fought regional loss. Maize's Abby Canupp/Kara Davenport def. Abbie Moyers/Anna Popp, 5-7, 6-3, (10-8). It was the same Maize doubles team that Great Bend's Alexis Folkerts/Abby Moyers beat last year at regionals.
McPherson's Dobson/Berger defeated Madison Huslig/Ruth Williams, 6-1, 6-0. Great Bend's singles players Remi Ingram and Grace Dougherty lost first-round matches. Hays High's Morgan Shorb defeated Ingram 6-3, 6-1. Hays High's Maggie Robben downed Dougherty, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
