CLAFLIN — Central Plains Oiler senior Jennah Jeffrey ended her high school powerlifting career on top, earning herself the overall state championship in the 148-pound women’s division at the Kansas Eight-Man Football Association State Powerlifting Championship.
Lincoln’s girls (118) captured first place and the Oilers earned the runner-up trophy with 94 points. The Oiler girls won state powerlifting titles in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. The Quivira Heights girls swept five titles from 2006 to 2010.
Jeffrey set a state record for clean (180), previously held by three other athletes at 175-pounds. Jeffrey earned a silver medal in squat (235) and claimed the top spot on the podium with gold in bench press (120). Her combined total weight lifted was 535 pounds.
Oiler junior Nora VanScyoc won the overall 114-pound weight class title. She set a new state record for bench press (135), and a new state record for squat (225) and finished with total weight lifted (485). Callie Zink placed third overall (370), second in bench, third in clean and fourth in squat.
Mollie Steiner placed third (132) with a total weight (425), including fourth in bench and clean and fifth in squat.
Central Plains senior Tyler Holmes capped off his career in style, placing first in the heavyweight class (1,120). Holmes was first in clean (345) and third in bench (300) and squat (485).
At 156-pounds, Cole Lamatsch placed third (775), including third in clean, fourth in bench and fifth in squat.
The Oiler boys finished 10th.
