TMP shuts down Chiefs in twinbill

HAYS — The Thomas More Prep Marian held back the Great Bend Class AAA American Legion baseball team on Wednesday evening.
TMP swept the doubleheader, winning 5-1 in the first game and 9-1 in five innings in the second game.
Tristan Hall got the start in Game 1 against TMP. He went two innings, giving up six walks and had four strikeouts.
Jaxx Hillman, who had the team’s lone RBI, came on in release and went 2 2/3 innings, giving up all five runs, four earned. He allowed seven hits and four walks while striking out two.
Tyler Nuss closed out the last 1 1/3 innings. He gave up one hit.
Great Bend managed four hits, one each from Bryce Beck, Shade Wondra, Matt Zecha and Brady Michel.
In Game 2, Michel took the mound, giving up four runs in 1 2/3 innings. He gave up one hit and four walks.
Wondra relieved Michel, going 2 2/3 innings. He scattered two hits and gave up four runs and three walks. He had three strikeouts.
Beck pitched the final 1/3 inning and gave up two hits and one run.
The Chiefs only managed two hits in the second game, one from Beck and one from Hall.
Hillman had the only RBI in the game.
Great Bend travels to Dodge City on Saturday for a two-day tournament.
The Chiefs face Hooker, Oklahoma, at 11 a.m. and Little River at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
If Great Bend was the No. 1 seed after the two games, it’ll play at least two games on Sunday.
If Great Bend is not the No. 1 seed, it will play once again at 5 or 7 on Saturday, before playing at least one game on Sunday.
