Competition ended Sunday for the ninth running of the NHRA Lucas Oil Division V event in Great Bend on a cold and windy May afternoon where not only track records were set, but also national records were recorded at the S.R.C.A dragstrip during the event.
Clint Neff, from Arvada, Colo., in K/A Competion Eliminator, set a new National record with a 7.82 elapsed time at 168.63 miles per hour.
Dic Geary, from Broomfield, Colo., set a new National record in H/SA Stock Eliminator with a 11.38 elapsed time at 114.84 miles per hour.
Bill Morse, from McKinney, Texas, set a new National record in SS/BA Super Stock with a 7.84 elapsed time at 161.87 miles per hour.
Richard Putz, from Earlville, Iowa, set a track record elapsed time in Top Alcohol Dragster with a 5.379, and Aaron Tatum from Oklahoma City, set a track record top speed at 262.74 miles per hour.
In Top Alcohol Funny Car, Roger Bateman, from Calgary Alberta, Canada set a track record elapsed time of 5.707 and top speed of 250.88 miles per hour. This is the first stop of six events in the NHRA Division V Lucas Oil Drag Race Series which now heads to Brainerd, Minn., on its next stop on May 27 through the 29th. The series is held nationwide with 41 total events in seven divisions starting in February at Bradenton, Fla., and ending in November at Las Vegas.

Winner — Randy Meyer, from Spring Hill, with a 5.466 elapsed time at 259.21 miles per hour.
Runnerup — Richard Putz, from Earlville, Iowa, with a 5.480 elapsed time at 247.02 miles per hour.

Winner — Kirk Williams, from Glenwood, Iowa, who ran unopposed when his competitor Bill Davis from Rogers, AR parachutes deployed when approaching the water box.
Super Comp Winner — Travis Nygaard, from Watertown, S.D., with a 9.037 elapsed time at 168.03 miles per hour.
Runner Up — Rustin Mayse from Grandview, Texas, with a 9.026 elapsed time at 157.61 miles per hour.
Super Gas Winner — Tommy Phillips from Forney, Texas, with a 10.070 elapsed time at 151.53 miles per hour.
Runner Up — Chris Burrell from Claude, Texas, with a 10.084 elapsed time at 158.07 miles per hour.
Super Street Winner —Donnie Durenberger from Minneapolis, Minn., with a 11.088 elapsed time at 134.22 miles per hour.
Runner Up — Bill Chinn Jr., from Topeka, with a 11.048 elapsed time at 130.47 miles per hour.
