HOISINGTON 62, SPEARVILLE 30

Hoisington played perfect basketball with a 30-0 scoring run to stretch a 18-13 lead to 48-13 in the Gene Keady Classic. Leading scorer Drew Nicholson scored 16 of his game-high 21 points during that splendid stretch. Mason Haxton added 10 points. The Cardinals had 10 players score and several others contribute.

The Cardinals scored 24 points off 26 Spearville turnovers with effective fullcourt pressure defense. The Cardinals committed five turnovers.

“We played very well together,” said Hoisington coach Kyle Haxton. “They struggled to handle pressure.”

Carson Rich led Spearville with 15 points.

Supersub Addia Nau scored 13 points off the bench to spark Spearville past Hoisington in Tuesday’s Gene Keady Classic. The Royal Lancers used a pair of 10-0 scoring runs for a 28-10 halftime lead. 

Hoisington’s Samantha Colson led the Cardinals (0-2) with six points.

ST. JOHN GIRLS 42, ELLINWOOD

St. John outscored Ellinwood 19-9 in the third period to pull away for a 42-32 victory in the Gene Keady Classic. Bree Meyer scored 13 points and Erin Crissman added 11 points. Paige Doran scored eight points.

Ellinwood (1-1) was paced by Madison Ward with 14 points and Mya Maxwell added eight points.

St. John’s Tanner Halling dominated the paint with 20 points and teammate Mason Osborne contributed 19 points to balance the inside game at the Gene Keady Classic.  The Tigers scored 21 fourth-quarter points.

The Tigers (2-0) play Hoisington (1-1) in Friday’s semifinals. 

Ellinwood’s David Hammeke scored a career high 17 points. The Eagles (0-2) play Spearville in Thursday’s consolation round.


OTIS-BISON GIRLS 48, STAFFORD 20

Otis-Bison’s Maddie Wiltse scored 23 points and Cora Anderson added seven points and they worked together for assists for each other as their height dominated the Trojans inside in the Fairfield Classic at Kangdon. Sheridan Ewy scored 13 points, highlighted by a trio of 3-pointers. The Cougars converted 18 Stafford turnovers into transition points. The Cougars led 24-10 at halftime.

Stafford’s Emily Green, a stylish guard, scored 11 points. Four Trojans hit the scoring column, one player excited by converting a field goal.

STAFFORD BOYS 59, OTIS-BISON 42

Otis-Bison’s Jayce Kohls drew the Cougars within 36-35 with his fourth 3-pointer. But Stafford responded with a 15-0 scoring run while keeping the Cougars scoreless for six minutes at the Fairfield Classic at Langdon. 

Stafford’s 6-7 Alex Manojilovic scored 24 points and played well defensively inside. Guard Justice Manning scored 21 points with a variety of driving shots. Matija Ivanovic fed Manojilovic for many of his baskets. The Trojans converted many of the Cougars’ 20 turnovers into transition points.

Cougar Maitland Wiltse scored 12 points and Anton Foust added 10 points, but they combined to convert 10 of 33 field goals against the Trojans’ height. Jayce Kohls added 12 points on four 3-pointers.

KINSLEY GIRLS 28, MACKSVILLE 22 — Kinsley’s girls built a 14-4 halftime lead and held off Macksville 28-22 in Monday’s Gene Keady Classic.

The Coyotes led 11-0 after one quarter. Kinsley’s Josea Frame scored 10 points and Maddison McElwain and Rylee Gleason each added eight points.   

Macksville’s Jenna Russell and Braylytnn Anshutz each scored eight points.
